In-Car Computer Program for Patrol Vehicles

The Fulton County Sheriff's Department is working to modernize patrol operations by installing mobile computers in patrol vehicles. This project will allow deputies to access critical information in real time while in the field, helping them respond faster to calls for service, improve efficiency, and enhance overall public safety for the citizens of Fulton County.

Purpose of the Project

The goal of this program is to equip patrol vehicles with secure, department-approved mobile computer systems that connect directly to law enforcement databases and the Sheriff's Office records system. By placing these tools directly in patrol vehicles, deputies will no longer need to rely solely on radio traffic or return to the office to complete reports or retrieve information.

This technology allows deputies to work more efficiently while remaining available in the community.

How the System Works

Each patrol vehicle will be equipped with a rugged mobile computer mounted safely inside the vehicle. These computers will connect to secure law enforcement networks and allow deputies to:

  • Access dispatch calls and call details instantly

  • Run driver's license, vehicle registration, and warrant checks

  • View incident locations through mapping and GPS systems

  • Complete and submit incident and crash reports directly from the field

  • Receive real-time updates from dispatch and other deputies

  • Review prior calls and case information while on scene

This technology allows deputies to stay in their patrol area while completing important tasks, rather than leaving the community to return to the office.

Benefits to the Community

Implementing in-car computers will provide several important benefits to Fulton County residents:

Faster Response Times
Deputies can receive and review call information immediately, navigate directly to the location, and access critical details before arriving on scene.

More Deputies Available in the Community
Because reports and paperwork can be completed from the patrol vehicle, deputies spend less time traveling back to the office and more time actively patrolling and responding to calls.

Improved Officer Safety
Deputies can quickly check individuals and vehicles for warrants or alerts without waiting on radio traffic, allowing them to make safer decisions during traffic stops and investigations.

Better Communication and Coordination
Deputies and dispatch can exchange information electronically in real time, reducing radio congestion and improving coordination during emergencies.

More Efficient Use of Resources
By reducing travel time, paperwork delays, and unnecessary radio traffic, the department can maximize patrol coverage and use taxpayer resources more effectively.

Commitment to Public Safety

The Fulton County Sheriff's Department is committed to using responsible technology to improve service to the community. The in-car computer program represents an important step toward modern policing practices that increase efficiency, improve communication, and enhance the safety of both deputies and the public.

As this project continues to develop, the department will work to ensure that all systems are secure, reliable, and used in accordance with law enforcement standards and privacy protections.

Through investments like this, the Fulton County Sheriff's Department continues to focus on providing professional, responsive, and effective law enforcement services to the citizens of Fulton County.
